Quebec separating isn't a likely outcome in the foreseeable future but if it was to leave then the govt would be powerless to prevent others leaving as its a democratic country and if the will of the people wants Independence, it will happen.
References :
Here's the argument you need: Terrorism works. Look at what happened to us after 9/11. We were so afraid that we suspended some of our most dearly held freedoms. Even all these years later, we just passed a bill that includes a provision to have the military hold U.S. citizens indefinitely without charges and without a trial. We created a new government agency--homeland security--which can do things like tap our phones without a warrant and check out what books we're reading. The Coast Guard, which used to be under the Department of Transportation except in times of war, became part of Homeland Security instead. We have a huge government agency--the TSA--that performs intrusive searches before we can fly. And we ruined our economy in two wars because we borrowed trillions of dollars from China to finance those wars. We are destroying ourselves from within, and the terrorists are laughing their heads off.
References :
in all of the world's major conflicts with terrorist (or 'freedom fighters' as they would say) negotiation only happens when the terrorists stop blowing stuff up & killing.

It has been USED by several major world powers to cause unrest in enemy states such as the US funding Al quada during the Afghan wars with Russia...oh, yes they did!!!
References :
Terrorism is a blessing for some governments* as the threath of terrorism (by outsiders) gives them an excuse to limit freedom, an excuse to spend money on measures that serve no real purpose.

* governments like that of the USA.
References :
One thing about Jeter is that he has class. No double talk from him. People know where they stand with Derek. The only thing about Jeter is that he has incredible fan support. Yes, I think he did the right thing by putting all the cards on the table. Management wouldn't dare to try and "back door" Jeter now. I think Jeter knows that this will be his last contract unless something unexpected develops over the course of the next three seasons.

You know, maybe he should have tested the market just to show the Steinbrenners that he had leverage. After all "Hankenstein" told Derek's agent to do it. Thank goodness I root for the players on that team and not the owners.
References :
Generally speaking I would have said yes. But we are talking about the Steinbrenners. They have long memories and hold grudges. I still think what Jeter said was the right thing to do. If Yankee management plans to discredit Jeter down the road at least they can't say he talked behind their backs.

I like Jeter but have never liked the Steinbrenners. To them Jeter has become a necessary evil that will cost them another $51 million dollars. The thing is Jeter will make the Yankees 10 times that amount just through PR. I hope by being direct in his statement that it won't come back to bite him in the azz.
References :
everyone involved will regret how ugly this thing got (why in sports do big name player contract negotiations always turn out so ugly)... what would have been wise was for jeter's agent not to be provocative to the Yankees... especially the yankees there is no team that could play the PR game with jeter as well as the yankees
References :
Yes he was wise to express his feelings because if he said it any time after the press conference, during spring training or during the season it would of became a distraction. The yankees did say that they were going to keep the negotiations private.
References :
Absolutely it was the right thing to do. It's clearly better to put it out there rather then bottle it up and have any resentment what so ever against his team. Now that its open and out there both management and Jeter can put it behind them and move forward.
