He seem to make no bones about how disappointed he was with management and the media’s handling of the negotiations. Will this come back to bite him in the azz?

One thing about Jeter is that he has class. No double talk from him. People know where they stand with Derek. The only thing about Jeter is that he has incredible fan support. Yes, I think he did the right thing by putting all the cards on the table. Management wouldn’t dare to try and "back door" Jeter now. I think Jeter knows that this will be his last contract unless something unexpected develops over the course of the next three seasons.

You know, maybe he should have tested the market just to show the Steinbrenners that he had leverage. After all "Hankenstein" told Derek’s agent to do it. Thank goodness I root for the players on that team and not the owners.

Im looking at 2004-2005 Jeep Libertys in the price range of around $11,000-$12,000. Is offering 20% asking price to low to start negotiations? And if not about what percent off will I likely end at.

If it is from a dealer, yes, 20% is too much. The days have long past when a dealer would significantly over price their vehicle with the expectation of the buyer negotiating a lower price.

Since the dealers started listing their vehicles on the Internet they now list a price that is much closer to the lowest price they are willing to accept. This is because several other dealers are doing the same thing. They don’t want to be caught with pricing that is higher than their competition. It is too easy to find a very similar vehicle from a different dealer for less money. If they list the price too high people will not bother to look.

A more realistic number would be more like 5%

One thing to consider. Any dealer must make at least 15% profit on every vehicle they sell or they will not be in business for very long. Sell vehicles without making a profit and they can not cover operating expenses and they go out of business quickly. They would rather either let the vehicle sit on the lot or sell it at auction than sell it at such a discount. No dealer is so desperate that they will sell their vehicles at a loss.

However, there is one last thing to consider. The retail price for a 2005 Jeep Liberty ranges between $8,369 to $10,193 depending on the exact model. This dealer is asking way too much for this vehicle. I would try and find one someplace else if you really have your heart set on this model.
